Maryam Faisal
Maryam holds a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University and is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
Her therapy approach is shaped by her experiences as a South Asian Muslim immigrant and her work in anti-racism and advocacy. Maryam is committed to a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, person-centered framework.
Maryam is dedicated to walking alongside you in your journey, recognizing that you are the expert of your experience. She aims to adopt a collaborative and holistic approach to foster an environment of trust. Maryam believes therapy is relational, offering connection, warmth, empathy, and some gentle challenging to explore the edges of your comfort zone—where growth happens.
Maryam believes that culture, family, community, and social interactions shape our experiences, and she encourages exploration of how these factors contribute to our meaning-making.
Specifically, Maryam has supported folks experiencing anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder, relationship issues, social/family issues, self-esteem concerns, racial trauma/islamophobia, illness/grief, stress, trauma, and addictions. She primarily works with adults (17+).
Her practice is eclectic, drawing on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), with an incorporation of faith-based therapy where appropriate. She is also working towards a Traditional Islamically Integrated Psychotherapy (TIIP) certification.
