Berak Hussain

Berak Hussain is a Registered Psychotherapist with 16 years of psychotherapy, psychoeducation and public speaking experience in Canadian academic institutions and local and international community organizations.  She has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters in Educational Counseling from the University of Ottawa. She is a Registered Psychotherapist in the Colleges of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a Professional Member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

She’s also known as The Muslim Counsellor, and is a passionate public speaker in Mental Health, Social Justice, and Women issues and poetry, through seminars, workshops, mental health training and conferences. She speaks on a variety of Islamic-psychological issues bridging the connection and misconceptions around Islam and mental health and Islam and women. She has worked locally and internationally on a variety of mental health initiatives working tirelessly to break the stigma around the topic within the community through TV documentaries, shows and implementing psycho educational wellness programs with widow/orphan charity humanitarian groups in Iraq, and with Psyched4U in North America.

Specializations: Trauma informed,  Mindfulness, CBT, Compassion/Cultural/Faith/Spiritual/Justice/Career based practices, to help with a variety of related challenges of life transitions such as, anxiety, depression, loss and grief, stress, self esteem and development, relationships and cross generational challenges and cultural identity challenges in personal, family, community and work dynamics
