Dr. Mahdi Qasqas

Topic - Transforming Vicarious Trauma to Vicarious Resilience

Dr. Mahdi Qasqas is a registered psychologist with a PhD in Social Work from the University of Calgary. He is the author of “Islamically Modified Cognitive Behavioural Therapy” and has contributed to several academic works. Since 1999, Dr. Qasqas has been active as a Khateeb and community educator, developing a unique approach to mentoring Muslim youth as community leaders.

As one of the few Arabic-speaking Muslim psychologists in private practice in his province, he has specialized in culturally adapting mental health practices for Arab and Muslim clients. He has supervised numerous graduate students, including imams transitioning to mental health professionals. His passion lies in bridging gaps in research and training, particularly for Muslim mental health professionals. Dr. Qasqas is also the creator of the Psycho-Spiritual First Aid® framework, which includes various models and interventions, such as the Sunnah-Based Practice Framework and Islamic Counselling Psychology.
