Working towards challenging the stigma that exists around mental health has been a long and timely process, but there is still a lot of work to be done in the Muslim community. IFT Youth’s event titled Mental Health: Start the Conversation, seeks to take a step towards bringing light to such important issues through inviting a panel of speakers with various backgrounds, knowledge, and experiences with the topic at hand. This event is specifically targeted towards the youth who may feel like they are alone in their struggle with mental health. Speakers include Imam Khalid Latif, representatives from Naseeha, and a mental health advocate and social worker who has lived experience with schizophrenia (a mental illness).
